The Tabbed Control Panel Is Here!

Navigating the Roth IRA Conversion Optimizer shouldn’t feel like a chore. Today I’m excited to introduce version 4.2 with a major usability upgrade: the new Tabbed Control Panel. This redesign makes navigation faster, cleaner, and more intuitive.

Instead of one long panel with dozens of buttons, the interface is now organized into four focused tabs, each dedicated to a specific part of your workflow. Whether you’re running Monte Carlo simulations, adjusting scenario parameters, or exporting worksheets, everything is now exactly where you expect it to be.

🧭 1. Scenario Manager Tab

The first tab gives you direct access to all your saved scenario sets and individual scenarios. This is where users will spend most of their time. You can load and save scenarios as well as run the primary spreadsheet functions (Roth Optimization, Monte Carlo, and Charts).

It’s the “home base” for organizing your active Scenario Set.

⚙️ 2. Active Scenario Tab

This tab provides context at a glance. It displays the full parameter set for the currently loaded scenario — ages, returns, expenses, Social Security timing, filing status, inflation assumptions, and more.

You no longer have to switch worksheets to check your Scenario settings and assumptions.

📁 3. Scenario Set Manager Tab

For users who maintain multiple Scenario Sets (a Scenario Set is a set of five scenarios), this tab provides a clean, structured way to manage them.

You can:

  • Switch between scenario sets
  • Copy or reorder them
  • Save or delete them
  • Import sets from previous versions
  • Export sets for clients (commercial versions only)

This is especially helpful for advisors or power users who maintain a library of planning templates.

📊 4. Worksheets Tab

This tab creates a centralizes place to manage all the worksheets:

You can quickly show or hide the various worksheets and jump between them.

Several of the worksheets are hidden by default to keep the main workflow of the tool streamlined. This makes it easier for users to display those worksheets if desired. It also allows users to easily hide worksheets that aren’t relevant to their particular situation.

✨ Why This Matters

This update isn’t just a cosmetic change; it’s designed to bridge the gap between complex financial data and an effortless planning experience.

  • Contextual Intelligence: By isolating Scenario management from the other functions, you get a cleaner workspace.
  • Context at a Glance: The Active Scenario tab allows you to quickly check your assumptions without losing your place.
  • Clutter-Free Analysis: The Worksheets tab allows you choose what to see and what to hide, tailoring the interface to the specific needs of the current plan.
  • Scalability for Professionals: For power users and advisors managing multiple client profiles, the Scenario Set Manager allows you to easily manage your library of Scenario Sets.
